From June 2–5, 2026, representatives of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) took part in international conference on non-communicable diseases ,,Health Risk factors and prevention of Injuries and diseases'' held in Chișinău, the capital of the Republic of Moldova. The conference marked the 10th anniversary of the iCREATE project and celebrated the fruitful long-term collaboration among partners from the USA, Romania, Georgia, Armenia, and Moldova.
The TSU delegation included Professor Nino Chikhladze, Maia Kharatishvili, and student Merab Papava (Master’s Program in Public Health).
During the visit, TSU representatives participated in project coordinators’ meetings (3.06.26)), as well as various workshops and scientific sessions.
Professor Nino Chikhladze took part in panel discussions ''Building Sustainable Research Capacity in Low and Middle Income Countries, Lessons from a Decade of iCREATE collaboration'' , delivered a presentation ''Injury related mortality in the Georgian Population 65 years and older'' at a session held at the National Agency for Public Health of Moldova (4.06.26), and served as a moderator of the session ''Raising awareness related to healthy lifestyle'' (5.06.26). TSU Master student Merab Papava presented the research paper “Fall Related Injuries among Children in Georgia” (4.06.26). The study examined the prevalence of fall-related injuries among children in Georgia and the associated risk factors. His research and clinically grounded perspective contribute meaningfully to international discussions on injury prevention.
The event also featured online participation by TSU PhD students (4.06.26), who presented studies on injuries and health risk factors:
Mariam Andriadze – “Pediatric burn hospitalizations in Georgia: an 8-year national retrospective study”; Tornike Batavani – “Occupational health and safety in the construction sector in Georgia”; Tatia Gratiashvili – “Five-year trends in injury hospitalization on the example of one region” and Shota Geladze – “The study of epidemiological characteristics of injuries on the example of one hospital in Tbilisi”.
Participation of all three TSU representatives in the event was fully funded by U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) Fogarty International Center iCREATE project (Grant No. 5D43TW007261).
