In Memoriam: Professor Arkadiusz Wudarski

The Faculty of Law at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) expresses its profound sorrow over the sudden and unexpected passing  of Professor Arkadiusz Wudarski at the age of 52, President of the Georgian-Polish Association of Lawyers and a distinguished scholar at Zielona Góra University and Viadrina European University.

Professor Wudarski was a devoted friend of TSU’s Faculty of Law and a great advocate for Georgia. His invaluable contributions significantly fostered the development  and alignment of Georgian and Polish law. Through his dedicated efforts and unwavering support, TSU students had the opportunity to participate in summer schools in Berlin, Frankfurt (Oder), and Słubice on multiple occasions. Furthermore, he actively encouraged Georgian students to engage in comparative legal research initiatives such as IUS PRIVATUM, co-authored academic publications with them, and supervised their research projects.

In recognition of his longstanding collaboration, based on the decision of the TSU Faculty of Law Council, Professor Wudarski was awarded the Tbilisi State University Gold Medal in 2024. The medal was intended to be personally presented to him during his next visit to Georgia, a moment that, regrettably, his untimely passing has rendered impossible. The medal will now be presented to his family.

On behalf of the TSU Faculty of Law, we extend our deepest condolences on the loss of an outstanding scholar and esteemed colleague. We express our heartfelt sympathy to Professor Wudarski’s family, colleagues, and all those who had the privilege of working with him.
