Abstract
The World Health Organization (WHO) states that cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, accounting for an estimated 9.6 million deaths in 2018. The main treatments consist of surgery and chemotherapy. Radiotherapy is used for 50% of cancer treatments. Despite important technological improvements, secondary effects remain significant due to lack of tumor selectivity and, for some cases, lack of efficiency. A new strategy based on combining radiation with nanomedicine has emerged and starts to be transferred in clinic. This new solution is expected to revolutionize the cancer treatments.
