If you are a BA, MA or Ph.D. student at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, you can have access to our Reading Halls or enjoy subscription services and borrow books from the University Library. However, library documents may not be taken out of Faculty libraries and Reading Halls. Your student card or ID gives you access to the reading hall. For the Library you must show your current Student Card and provide a 3x4 cm photo.

If you are a TSU employee, you can also use the same services. For the Library you will show your ID and a 3x4 cm photo as well as a document authorizing you to borrow books, issued by your TSU employer.

As a University guest, you may use the Reading Hall simply by showing your ID card.

Borrowing books and other documents at the Library

The Lending Department of the University Library allows you to borrow fiction words for a maximum of two months and other library documents for up to five months.

You can simultaneously borrow up to five objects (books, documents, etc).

Which books cannot be taken from the library?

  • Rare publications
  • Single-copy (only one existing) books
  • Periodicals (magazines, newspapers)
  • Library documents printed before 1921
  • Audio, video, cinema, photo, phono-documents
  • Reference books such as Encyclopedias and Dictionaries

What happens if books are damaged by borrowers, or not returned

If a library user damages or does not return a book or document, he/she will not be able to access library information resources and services, beginning 14 days after a book/document is not returned.

After that date a reader has to has 30 working days to provide the Library with exact replacements of the lost or damaged book/document, including the same title, year of publication etc. If this is not possible, the user must pay the cost of replacement as well as a fine of 50 Gel. In cases where this is not done, fines envisaged by Georgian law will be imposed.

Can I use a printer, photocopier, scanner, and/or computer?

To receive the relevant information to use a printer, photocopier, scanner or computer with audio-visual technology, apply to the Librarian on duty.   If you do not have the relevant skills for using audio-visual technology, the Librarian will assist you.

Computers may be used only for:

  • Entering and editing texts;
  • Searching and downloading materials from the Internet;
  • Working on electronic versions of literature;
  • Using CDs –only with the agreement of the Librarian;
  • Using email;
  • Working on educational programs.

You can also use electronic video, audio, and text materials available in the library collections. Permission can be asked to copy these materials if copyright legislation is respected.

Interlibrary Borrowing

If you are a BA, MA or Ph.D. student at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, you can have access to a Reading hall or enjoy subscription services and borrow books from the university library. It is inadmissible to take library documents from the faculty libraries and reading halls. You will need a student card or an identification card to gain access to the reading hall. As for the subscription department, you will have to present a student card and one photo (3X4).

If you are a TSU employee, you can enjoy services on the ground or take the books away. To enjoy subscription services, you will need an identification card, one photo (3X4) and a document from your workplace.

If you are a guest of the University, only a reading hall will serve you. You simply need to submit your identification card.

How to become a Library User at TSU
