Maureen Elizabeth Marshall, the deputy director of the American Research Institute of the South Caucasus and a renowned bioarchaeologist, anthropologist, and researcher at the University of Illinois, visited the Anthropology Laboratory of the Institute of History and Ethnology at Tbilisi State University. Liana Bitadze, the head of the laboratory and Doctor of Historical Sciences, gave the American scientist and anthropologists from Italy, Germany, and other European, Middle Eastern, and South Caucasian countries a tour of the laboratory. She introduced them to the important craniological collection and ongoing research.
The TSU Anthropology Laboratory is conducting research on the population's spatial and temporal settlement in Georgia. It has the most extensive craniological collection in the South Caucasus, ranging from the 4th century BC to modern small series, allowing for research in various areas of anthropology. According to Bitadze, several new studies and projects are planned.
World-renowned anthropologists participated in the international scientific conference “South Caucasus Bioarchaeology,” held in Tbilisi and organized by the American Research Institute of the South Caucasus.
