TSU Students’ Educational Practice

On May 16, a memorable educational practice was organized on the initiative of the second-year students of the Bachelor’s Program in Arabic Studies at TSU’s Faculty of Humanities, with the involvement of professors and doctoral students from the Faculty’s Institute of Oriental Studies and the support of the Faculty’s administration. A group of TSU students and academics visited the house-museum of Academician Giorgi Tsereteli, a figure of great importance in the history of the development of the Georgian Arabic and Semitic school, in the village of Tskhrukveti, Chiatura Municipality. They viewed the exhibits and photo-documentary material on site and listened to local stories and traditions related to Giorgi Tsereteli’s life, work, and scientific achievements.

As part of the visit, the Chiatura Cultural Center’s Local Lore Museum hosted a group of TSU students and academics. The guests viewed the museum’s outstanding archaeological, ethnographic, numismatic, photographic, and written materials, which provide visible, factual evidence of this region’s long and continuous historical development.

Inga Macharashvili, the director of the Chiatura Local Lore Museum, and her team presented the guests with an informative exhibition titled “People Who Created the Chiatura Epoch.”

Special emphasis was placed on two renowned orientalists – Mikheil (Mikhako) Tsereteli and Academician Giorgi Tsereteli, who elevated the Georgian Orientalist School to international renown and showcased its achievements in the global scientific community. The exhibition presented these two scientists’ lives as examples of tireless intellectual work, high academic responsibility and professional dedication. These examples should motivate students studying Oriental Studies.

The guests were accompanied by a guide from the Local Lore Museum on a visit to the Mgvimevi Monastery Complex, a beautiful monument of Georgian architecture located in the Chiatura municipality.
