Tbilisi State University, in collaboration with the Korneli Kekelidze Georgian National Center of Manuscripts and the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, will prepare a comprehensive academic edition of Ivane Javakhishvili’s works.
In the context of this initiative, a memorandum of cooperation was formally endorsed by the Rector of Tbilisi State University, Academician Jaba Samushia; the Director of the Georgian National Center of Manuscripts, Zaza Abashidze; and the President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Roin Metreveli. The first volume of Ivane Javakhishvili’s works is scheduled for publication in 2026, coinciding with the 150th birth anniversary of the esteemed scientist.
“Next year, our country will commemorate the 150th anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili, within the framework of which Tbilisi State University, the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, the National Center of Manuscripts, and the Georgian National Academy of Sciences are planning a series of events. A significant upcoming event is the preparation of a comprehensive academic edition of Ivane Javakhishvili’s works,” said Rector Jaba Samushia.
“I think that from now on, the work on this publication will proceed at an even faster pace. The comprehensive academic publication of Ivane Javakhishvili’s works will be an important development in our public life. Ivane Javakhishvili played a special role in the history of the 20th century. It is symbolic that the agreement is being signed in Ivane Javakhishvili’s memorial office, surrounded by his books and belongings, on his desk,” said Zaza Abashidze, Director of the Georgian National Center of Manuscripts.
The event was followed by a working meeting, where the assembled scholars discussed the challenges associated with processing the material for publication, the prevailing editorial issues, and the advancement of work on the inaugural volume.
