The Volkswagen Foundation is an independent, non-profit foundation under private law based in Hanover. With a total funding volume of around 150 million euros per year, it is the largest private German science-promoting foundation and one of the largest foundations in Germany. It allocates its funds exclusively to scientific institutions. Since 1962, the Volkswagen Foundation has funded more than 33,000 projects with a total of more than 5.3 billion euros. In terms of this, too, it is one of the largest non-profit foundations under private law in Germany.
