The first Armwrestling Championship was held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University in 1989. Erekle Gurchiani became Georgian champion in 1989. Presently, he is the President of the National Federation. The first armwrestling team was established at TSU in 1989 and since then it has won a lot of prizes at various championships. In 2011-2012, TSU armwrestling team received gold medals at the championship among universities.

TSU team members frequently join the Georgian National Armwrestling Team.
