Jaba Samushia Opens International Interdisciplinary Symposium of Young Scholars

The Rector of Tbilisi State University, Academician Jaba Samushia, opened the VI International Interdisciplinary Symposium of Young Scholars, which convenes experts from a range of disciplines within the humanities from Georgia, Germany, the United States, France, Japan, Switzerland, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Rector Jaba Samushia said that the format of the symposium is distinctive, as it provides an opportunity for the younger generation of scientists to engage in discourse with their more experienced counterparts. This serves as a bridge between the two generations, facilitating the initial steps of the younger scientists’ careers and enabling them to collaborate with their senior colleagues on meaningful scientific investigations.

The Rector also spoke about peer-reviewed and refereed journals and the funding program for scientific journals, which will be implemented by Tbilisi State University in the near future. “The inclusion of scientific journals in international databases is a priority that will facilitate the advancement of your respective fields of study and enhance the visibility of your work on an international scale. Consequently, this will enhance the international visibility of Kartvelian studies and the humanities,” stated Jaba Samushia.

Darejan Tvaltvadze, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at Tbilisi State University, said that the symposium focuses on young people who are embarking on their scientific careers. “It is our responsibility to assist you in consolidating these steps, facilitating connections with the scientific community, and providing guidance on the optimal structuring of future scientific endeavors, for which this symposium serves as an invaluable platform,” said Darejan Tvaltvadze.

Emeritus Professor, Academician Mzekala Shanidze welcomed the conference guests. She spoke about linguistic studies and stressed the necessity of encouraging the participation of young people in Kartvelian studies.

The VI International Interdisciplinary Symposium of Young Scholars entitled “Kartvelian Studies: History, Modernity, Perspectives” has been organized by the TSU Faculty of Humanities, the Institute for Empirical Linguistics at Goethe University Frankfurt, and the Davis Center at Harvard University.
