On October 20, the Academic Council of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) elected Jaba Samushia as Acting Rector for a term of up to six months. Kakha Loria, chairman of the election commission, noted that 30 members of the Academic Council (a total of 33 members) participated in the voting. 28 members voted in favor of Jaba Samushia and 2 ballot papers were annulled.
The TSU Academic Council approved the summary protocol submitted by the election commission.
Elections of the Acting Rector of TSU were scheduled for October 20 after former Rector George Sharvashidze submitted his resignation to the Academic Council. A deadline for registration of candidates for Acting Rector of TSU ended on October 13. Only one candidate - TSU Professor Jaba Samushia applied for the position.
