Acting Rector Jaba Samushia Meets Members of Academic Council, Senate

Acting Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), Jaba Samushia addressed the newly elected members of the Representative Council (Senate) at a joint meeting of the Representative Council and the Academic Council.

 

Acting Rector Samushia spoke about the university property and budget, noting that the TSU-owned property will not be sold unless an alternative space is created for students and professors. Jaba Samushia also focused on bringing high-tech upgrades to auditoriums and labs, saying that the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia pledged to provide significant assistance to the university.

 

Speaking about the dormitory, the Acting Rector emphasized that two commissions composed of students, professors and administrative staff have agreed on one of the facilities and after receiving the conclusion of Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau, further steps will be taken on the ground. He also noted that the negotiations are underway upon completion of which students and professors of the Faculty of Medicine will have a university clinic.

 

The Acting Rector congratulated new members of the Senate on their election and wished them success in their future activities. Amendments to the statutes of several faculties and research institutes were approved at the joint meeting.

 

The Senate elections were held on November 28 to elect new members of the Representative Council instead of those, whose mandates had expired. As a result, 74 new members of the Representative Council were elected, including 32 – academic personnel, 26 – students, and 16 representatives of research institutes. The Senate also includes two permanent members - heads of the TSU Central Library and the TSU Scientific Library.
