Infrastructure Projects at TSU

Large scale rehabilitation works have been launched at the Faculty of Medicine of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The infrastructure project involves the reconstruction and renovation of the buildings housing the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandre Natishvili Institute of Morphology, Gerontology and Vivarium, as well as courtyards. In addition, the buildings will be rehabilitated completely and a recreation space will be arranged for students and staff members.

The reconstruction works will be completed in the first half of 2023. The project is being implemented with the financial support of the Education and Science Infrastructure Development Agency of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. The total cost of the budget is estimated at GEL 3.5 million.

Rector of TSU, George Sharvashidze, Chancellor Lasha Saghinadze, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dimitri Kordzaia and representatives of the Institute of Morphology familiarized themselves with the ongoing rehabilitation works.

Rector Sharvashidze said that as a result of the rehabilitation, the educational and research buildings of the Faculty of Medicine will fully meet modern international standards. “The process of rehabilitation is ongoing very rapidly. GEL 3.5 million was allocated for rehabilitation works. Thus, by the next year, the Faculty of Medicine will be fully equipped with modern medical infrastructure. I would like to thank everyone involved in the project implementation. Special thanks to the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the Education and Science Infrastructure Development Agency,” the Rector noted.

Dean of the TSU Faculty of Medicine, Dimitri Kordzaia noted that in 2023, students will continue their studies with absolutely renovated infrastructure and new accredited programs. “The year 2021 was important for the Faculty of Medicine. All of our programs underwent accreditation. We started the year 2022 with huge novelties. Students will soon have a well-equipped new campus with fully renovated buildings and courtyard,” Kordzaia said. He also noted that all students of the Faculty of Medicine should be involved in serious research activities. The Pyramid Model is being created with the Scientific Department being at the top, followed by PhD students and other students assigned to them. “We have already started implementation of this model at the Faculty of Medicine and its full-scale operation requires fully renovated and equipped auditoriums and clinic,” Dimitri Kordzaia added.

TSU Chancellor, Lasha Saghinadze said that along with rehabilitation works launched at the Faculty of Medicine, a lot of other infrastructure projects are underway at TSU. “We are now at Beliashvili Street, where the Faculty of Medicine and the Institute of Morphology are located and where the rehabilitation works have begun. It is noteworthy that such infrastructure projects are also being implemented at other educational buildings of TSU. We hope that we will have many rehabilitated education, research and student spaces by the next academic year,” Lasha Saghinadze noted.

Presently, Tbilisi State University incorporates 27 buildings used for academic and research purposes. Rehabilitation of all educational buildings of TSU will continue through 2023.
