International Conference: “Tbilisi 2022: Stroke Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment”

Prominent researchers and practitioners working in the field of stroke from Western, Central and Eastern Europe, the United States, Canada, Israel, Georgia and neighboring countries are participating in the 8th regional conference “Tbilisi 2022: Stroke Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment.” The conference is being held under the auspices of the World Stroke Organization (WSO) and it has been organized by Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and Georgian Stroke Association.
 

“A lot of foreign professors, researchers successfully working on the problems of stroke are participating in the conference with TSU being one of the organizers. Leading clinicians, scientists, and practitioners in this field from different countries will discuss modern methods of stroke prevention and treatment together with their Georgian colleagues. It is important that the students of our Faculty of Medicine are also participating in the conference and familiarizing themselves with the latest achievements in the field,” Rector George Sharvashidze noted.
 

The main purpose of the meeting is to exchange modern scientific concepts and practical opinions about stroke prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The target audience of the meeting involves neuroscientists, neurologists, stroke specialists, as well as neurosurgeons, vascular surgeons, radiologists, and general practitioners.
 

Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Nunu Mitskevich spoke about the importance of holding such conferences in Georgia. She noted that “the international conference is the best opportunity for famous scientists and young researchers to expand relations and cooperation in the scientific-research direction, to form new consortia within the framework of the Horizon Europe Framework Program, and to ensure yet another success in scientific grant competitions.”
 

Professor Aleksandre Tsiskaridze, Head of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery of the TSU Faculty of Medicine, said that Tbilisi appeared on the map of international stroke conferences in 2000, and since then it is considered one of the most interesting and prestigious conferences in the society of stroke specialists and neurologists. “The conference program is very important and interesting, as it involves both scientific and educational parts. Therefore, it is interesting for residents, students, and certainly for medical professionals. Successful holding of these conferences will contribute to the education of our doctors, young doctors, and the acquisition of new knowledge that will lead to the reduction of the number of stroke patients. We are talking here about adequate disease prevention, effective means of treatment. This will help our patients in the fight against stroke,” Professor Tsiskaridze noted.
 

The involvement of the WSO and the European Stroke Organization confirms that the conference is being held at a high level. The main goal of the meeting is to exchange modern scientific concepts and practical opinions about stroke prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Bo Norrving, professor in neurology at Lund University (Sweden) and former president of the World Stroke Organization, spoke about the contribution of Georgian neurosurgeons and stroke specialists to the development of the field. He said that the involvement of Georgian specialists, their vision, work, experience is very interesting, modern, and significant. He stressed that the Georgian Stroke Association has become internationally recognized among European countries because great progress is observed in this direction.
 

The conference was financed by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, and it will last for two days. The participants will have an opportunity to share experience with their colleagues, as well as to engage in a discussion and stay informed of the current novelties in the field.
