International Scientific Conference “Poland - Georgia. Bicentennial Dialogue”

The relations between the two friendly nations – Georgia and Poland – were discussed at an international scientific conference “Poland – Georgia. Bicentennial Dialogue” held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University on October 6.
 

Deputy Rector of TSU, Nino Gvenetadze, Polish Ambassador to Georgia, Mariusz Maszkiewicz, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Nunu Mitskevich, Dean of the TSU Faculty of Humanities, Nana Gaprindashvili, invited guests, scientists from Georgia, Poland and Germany attended the event.


Ambassador Maszkiewicz said that the conference held at TSU is an example of fruitful cooperation between the two countries. “I am glad that today we will remember the heroes of the 19th and 20th centuries and remind the public how strong our bilateral relations are, despite the great distance between the states,” the Ambassador noted.
 

Dean of the TSU Faculty of Humanities, Nana Gaprindashvili said that the conference has been organized by the Faculty of Humanities and it covers the relations between the two friendly nations. “As you know, Georgia has a lot of friends worldwide with Poland being special among them. Georgian-Polish political relations, economic relations, historical relations are very important for us. Poland promotes the development of Georgia,” Nana Gaprindashvili noted, adding that Tbilisi State University pays special attention to the development of Polish studies, research of Polish culture, and learning the Polish language.
 

Nunu Mitskevich, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, said that TSU is hosting the scientific conference, where Georgian and Polish scientists, researchers studying these two countries have an opportunity to talk about Georgian-Polish relations. “The Polish public organization “Polonia”, which has a 25-year history in Georgia, is represented at the conference. Its role is important in terms of social, scientific-research, cultural and creative support,” Mitskevich stressed. The conference is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of “Polonia.”
 

TSU Professor Maria Filina, head of the Center for Polish Studies at the Faculty of Humanities of TSU, said that the first Polish public organization in the Caucasus – “Polonia” was founded at Tbilisi State University 25 years ago. “Since then, we have been holding conferences, including international conferences on Georgian-Polish relations. Today we received letters of greetings from the Polish Senate and the Sejm, according to which each of our event is a step forward in the field of Georgian-Polish relations,” Maria Filina noted.
 

Several sections will work at the plenary sessions: literature and verbal communications, history and political science, art, culture and education. One section will be held online.
 

The conference is organized by the Center for Polish Studies at TSU; the Embassy of Poland to Georgia; Cultural and Educational Union of Poles in Georgia “Polonia”; Association “Wspólnota Polska.”
