38 international students will study at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) during the fall semester of 2021 within the framework of exchange programs. Rector of TSU, George Sharvashidze, foreign diplomats accredited in Georgia, representatives of academic community and exchange students attended a welcome ceremony for international students. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, students from 21 universities of the world (12 countries) arrived in Georgia to continue their studies at TSU. Furthermore, TSU hosts six foreign lecturers serving on a long-term contractual basis.

“Today we have a special day. Foreign exchange students have arrived in Georgia to study at TSU. Despite distance learning, they are in Georgia and their learning process will begin quite soon. Other students will join them in the second semester,” Rector Sharvashidze said.

Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra, who also attended the event, said that a lot of students seized an opportunity to study the Georgian language at Magnus and Vilnius Universities. He also noted that after 15-20 years, these students will become leaders and important people for the future of their country. Ambassador Kalindra stressed that investment in education is very important not only for the country, but also for the bilateral relations of Lithuania and Georgia.

Number of international students who are studying on both foreign-language and Georgian-language programs at TSU is increasing on a yearly basis. Beatrix Narbute, a student of political science program at Vilnius University, said she is glad to visit TSU, adding that the University offers her the best opportunity to learn about Georgia and Georgian culture.
