Press Remarks by TSU Acting Rector Jaba Samushia

In his remarks to the press, Acting Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Jaba Samushia noted that there will be no closed topics during his tenure. “I will try to answer all the questions that have been worrying our students; we will have a constant dialogue with all those people who care about the future of TSU. For me, the university is based on three things: it is a century-old tradition, professors, and students. We will take specific steps in these three directions to increase the authority of our university, further involve the professors in the university life and support students in every possible way,” Samushia said, adding that there will be no results without dialogue; therefore, this process will start from the next week.

The Acting Rector of TSU stated regarding the voting procedure during his election that the process was conducted transparently, and as to why he was the only candidate in the elections, he noted: “It may have happened because the function of the Acting Rector, to some extent, is to get ready for the Rector’s election, and perhaps, due to this, no one else has expressed desire to run in the elections.”

The Acting Rector also noted that he will hold a closed meeting with those students who organized a protest during the voting: “I want to be the first to extend a hand of friendship to these people. I have nothing to hide from anyone, especially my students. It will be an introductory meeting held in a friendly atmosphere.”
