TSU, French Universities Enhance Cooperation

Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), George Sharvashidze visited France as part of the cooperation between Georgian and French universities and held meetings at INSA Rennes (National Institute for Applied Sciences) and University of Rennes 1. Rector Sharvashidze held meetings with President of Rennes 1, David Alis, as well as Vice Presidents, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management and professors of the same university.

The participants focused on the need for intensification of student exchange programs, perspectives of awarding dual degrees and conducting joint research. In addition, the parties decided to launch cooperation for awarding joint degrees in the field of European studies. They also discussed the prospects for awarding joint degrees in the field of economics. The participants agreed to continue talks in an expanded format with the involvement of academics from TSU and Rennes 1. The areas of future cooperation in the fields of chemistry and biochemistry will be outlined at the next meeting.

During the visit, Rector George Sharvashidze met with the Director of INSA Rennes, M'Hamed Drissi and other representatives of the university administration. The participants decided to move the already existing long cooperation between TSU and INSA Rennes to a new level as well as to deepen cooperation in the fields of electronic engineering, computer science, cybersecurity and Big Data.

Rector of Tbilisi State University, George Sharvashidze awarded a Gold Medal to Mireille Ducassé, Professor at INSA Rennes, for her contribution to the development of the discipline of Computer Science at TSU.

TSU has been cooperating with INSA Rennes since 2013 and with the University of Rennes 1 – since 2018. Rennes 1 coordinates the French-Georgian university cooperation from the French side.
