TSU among Best Global Universities

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University has improved its ranking for physics by 61 positions and is now ranked 195th, according to U.S. News & World Report - Best Global University Rankings 2021.

TSU is ranked 398th among the best universities worldwide and is still the only university from Georgia and the region listed among 1,500 top global universities. The overall Best Global Universities rankings encompass nearly 1,500 top institutions spread across 86 countries.

TSU has outranked a number of popular European and U.S. universities, among them University of Giessen (Germany), Kobe University (Japan), Florida Institute of Technology, Georgia and San Diego State University (the United States), University of Stuttgart (Germany), University of Essex (UK), Masaryk University (Czech Republic), University of Coimbra (Portugal), Queens University (USA), London Business School (UK), Saarland University (Germany), University of Salamanca (Spain), University of Sofia (Bulgaria) and Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (Germany).

For 30 years, U.S. News & World Report has been publishing rankings of the best global universities. The institutions have been ranked based on 13 indicators that measure their academic research performance and their global and regional reputations, as well as number of publications, scientific books, quality of conferences and a share of universities in the most cited publications. The survey is also built on academics’ opinions about world universities, their views of programs in the disciplines with which they were familiar.

According to the 2021 Best Global Universities Rankings, the United States is still leading with 266 universities; Harvard University has been listed first in the rankings. The United States is followed by China with 203 universities, United Kingdom – 87, Japan – 85, France – 81, Germany – 71 and Italy – 60.

U.S. News & World Report believes that since an increasing number of students plan to enroll in universities outside of their own country, the Best Global Universities rankings – which focus specifically on schools' academic research and reputation overall and not on their separate undergraduate or graduate programs – can help those applicants accurately compare institutions around the world.
