The Rector of Tbilisi State University, Academician Jaba Samushia, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Darejan Tvaltvadze, professors and students laid a wreath at the grave of Academician Akaki Shanidze, one of the founders of the University, a famous Georgian scientist, on the occasion of his birthday.
A public session dedicated to the 138th anniversary of Akaki Shanidze's birth was organized by the Georgian Language Institute of the Faculty of Humanities of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, where Georgian scientists presented their papers.
According to Darejan Tvaltvadze, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at TSU, the public session commemorating Akaki Shanidze has been held for the 38th consecutive year. “Following the death of Akaki Shanidze, this event has been held annually, wherein Georgian linguists gather and pay tribute to his memory. I hope that the next generation will continue this tradition and will present interesting reports and research results on an annual basis,” stated Darejan Tvaltvadze.
Academician Mzekala Shanidze presented a report during the public session, expressing her gratitude to the attendees of the event. “I am delighted that today, those who perpetuate the tradition, have once again convened a public session to honor Akaki Shanidze,” said Mzekala Shanidze.
The recent edition of Akaki Shanidze’s Fundamentals of Georgian Language Grammar, published by TSU Publishing House, was showcased at the event.
