Youth Forum “For Sustainable Development and European Integration”

A youth forum titled “For Sustainable Development and European Integration” was held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. During the panel discussion, issues of industrial innovation, ecology, agriculture, and climate change across Georgia were discussed.

The panel discussion was held as part of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed by Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and the Georgian Green Movement - Friends of Earth - Georgia. The memorandum outlines the implementation of joint theoretical and practical activities to promote ecological, environmental and sustainable development goals, as well as the exchange of experiences and information between the parties. As part of this cooperation, the parties will discuss cultural and educational issues, raise student awareness about ecology and environmental issues, and develop international contacts to implement joint projects.

The Youth Forum, which aims to implement the UN Sustainable Development Goals, is being held at various higher education institutions in Georgia. Within the framework of the forum, each university appoints an organizing committee consisting of students, professors, and administrative staff. TSU has selected three topics for discussion from the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals: “Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure,” “Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements,” and “Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.”

The speakers for the panel discussion were students from the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences at Tbilisi State University: Mariam Butskhrikidze: “Geoecological Assessment of the Relief of the Kvareli Municipality”; Nino Tsikolia: “Geoecological Assessment of Erosional Relief Using the Alazani River as an Example”; Liana Khandolishvili: “Features of Sustainable Development of Karst Relief in the Kvirila River Basin”; Irma Makalatia: “Batumi Island: Challenges, Perspectives, and Modern Approaches”; Giorgi Zedgenidze: “Model of Geospatial Modernization of Georgian Agricultural Land”; Tsotne Sulashvili: “Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture”; Nikoloz Nikvashvili: “Nuclear Energy and Ecology.” After the presentations, the speakers answered questions from the audience.
