The first edition of the UNICA Days under the overarching theme “Navigating the Future: Strengthening Democracy through Education and Research” was held in Brussels from February 28 to March 1, 2024. The Vice Rector of Tbilisi State University Erekle Astakhishvili participated in the event.
Representatives of universities from different European countries took part in the UNICA meetings. A total of 53 universities from 40 European capitals are united in the UNICA network.
The event was held at the European Parliament Info Hub and focused on three key topics: the democratic mission of universities ahead of the EU Parliament elections 2024; the developments in transnational cooperation on education in Europe; and the visions for a new European research and innovation strategy.
The Ministers of Education of Romania and Slovenia, the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Members of the European Parliament and others also participated in the meetings.
Following the negotiations between UNICA President, Prof. Sorin Costreie, Secretary General Prof. Luciano Saso and Erekle Astakhishvili, it was decided to hold the Rectors’ Forum of UNICA Member Universities at Tbilisi State University next year.
