TSU Journal in Scopus Database

The journal Phasis of the Institute of Classical Philology, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies of Tbilisi State University has been included in the Scopus citation database. The editorial board of the journal has already received an official notification of this development, and the journal will be incorporated into the database within a month.

Scopus is a globally renowned and highly esteemed international database that encompasses a vast array of peer-reviewed academic journals across various disciplines. The inclusion of Phasis in this esteemed repository represents a significant stride towards enhancing the credibility and prestige of Georgian scientific publications, facilitating their international recognition and contributing to the establishment of rigorous academic standards within the scientific community of Georgia, particularly in the domain of humanities. Additionally, it serves to elevate the visibility and prominence of Georgian scientists, fostering their integration into the global scientific landscape.

The journal Phasis was established in 1999 by the Institute of Classical Philology, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies of TSU. The journal’s initiator and chief editor is Rismag Gordeziani, an emeritus professor of TSU, an academician of the Georgian Academy of Sciences and a corresponding member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences. The editors, Tamar Cheishvili and Tamar Japaridze, played an important role in the journal’s success. The editorial board of the journal is comprised of Georgian and foreign scientists, including professors from various generations of universities of Heidelberg, Jena, Bremen, Pisa, Bologna, and Durham. The journal is published on an annual basis in both print and electronic formats. It features articles on a range of topics related to antiquities, classical philology, Byzantine and Modern Greek studies, presented in English, French, and German.

In 2015, Phasis was designated a refereed journal, and in 2020 it was included in the ERIH PLUS database. The inclusion of Phasis in Scopus represents a significant achievement for our university’s humanities, particularly the Georgian school of Greco-Roman philology and for Georgian science more broadly. This is the first Georgian university journal with a humanities profile to be included in the Scopus database.
