TSU representatives held two events in Batumi. On June 4, they held a scientific picnic for schoolchildren at the St. Matata Apostle Theological Gymnasium. The following day, they held a similar event for students at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. Representatives from the Institute of Agrarian and Membrane Technologies at Batumi University, along with TSU professors, participated in both events.
“Why and who should study chemistry? - Science in our everyday lives," - the goal of these events was to increase interest in chemistry among schoolchildren and students through practical, visual and interactive activities. These activities included laboratory demonstrations, experiments, and demonstrations of practical chemistry skills, as well as educational lectures and creative activities. These events are part of the Rustaveli National Science Foundation grant SPG-25-652, which aims to popularize chemistry among schoolchildren by demonstrating the visual effects of chemistry, increasing interest in natural sciences, facilitating practical experience, and connecting science with everyday life.
Attendees participated in fun experiments and listened to lectures by TSU professors, Elza Markarashvili, Head of the Chemistry Laboratory of the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences and Doctor of Chemistry, and Academician Ramaz Gakhokidze. Later, TSU representatives met with the Rector of Batumi University, where Markarashvili and Gakhokidze were presented with certificates of appreciation.
