9th International Staff Week at TSU

The 9th International Staff Week was opened at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University within the framework of the Erasmus+ program of the European Union. A total of 21 representatives from 17 institutions in nine European countries (Austria, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Romania, Slovakia, Spain) are participating in the event.

The International Staff Week, a dialogue platform established for the purpose of fostering collaboration with leading European universities, serves to facilitate the exchange of international experience in the domain of education, promote a nuanced understanding of the present circumstances in our country, and introduce exemplary practices.

TSU Deputy Rector Erekle Astakhishvili greeted the participants of the staff week and discussed the role and significance of Tbilisi State University within the context of Georgian higher education. He emphasized the importance of this EU program: “The student and staff mobility program facilitates the alignment of the Georgian education system with the EU education system. The mobility of students and staff facilitates not only cultural exchange, but also the exchange of educational quality and teaching methodologies. It is through the mobility program that we fill gaps, overcome obstacles and pave the way for the development of a more inclusive, global education system.”

Tea Gergedava, head of the Foreign Relations Department of TSU, stated that “the topic of the Staff Week is ‘University internationalization and the perspectives and challenges of international exchange programs, both academically and administratively.’ In collaboration with the representatives of partner European universities, we are exploring avenues for enhancing our institutions’ collaboration, drawing upon the extensive experience gained through engagement with international partners. Our objective is to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices, thereby strengthening ties in the field of education.”

Over the course of a week, representatives from TSU and a number of European universities will engage in discourse pertaining to the internationalization of knowledge, the characteristics of higher education institutions, and the impact of student and staff mobility on both individual and professional levels.
