The first international symposium dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of Professor Nodar Janashia, titled “Georgian Turkology: Past, Present, Future” was held by the Institute of Oriental Studies at Tbilisi State University’s Faculty of Humanities.
TSU Rector, Academician Jaba Samushia participated in the event. He greeted the symposium participants with special respect and emphasized Professor Janashia’s contributions.
“Our university is more than just walls and auditoriums - it is tradition, memory and knowledge created by people. Professor Nodar Janashia was an outstanding Turkologist whose scientific and pedagogical work greatly contributed to the development of Georgian science. His works and translations enriched not only the academic realm but also the culture of the Georgian word. We are proud of our Turkologists and believe that their work will continue. There is a lot of material in Georgia’s archives that still requires research. Our university provides support in the form of publications and international cooperation. This is how history never remains in the past, but continues into future generations,” noted Jaba Samushia.
The symposium was attended by representatives of Turkish universities and institutions. Harun Şahin, the head of the Turkish Language Chamber, emphasized the importance of friendly relations between the two countries and expressed his organization’s readiness to support Georgian Turkology in the future.
