The Rector of Tbilisi State University, Academician Jaba Samushia has opened the international scientific conference “Translational and Clinical Medicine - Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence in Medical Education and Science,” which gathered members of the International Advisory Board of the TSU Faculty of Medicine from 12 countries.
For two days, prominent foreign and Georgian medical doctors will speak at TSU about modern achievements and international trends in translational biomedicine, digitalization, and artificial intelligence. The audience will be introduced to the latest information on medical imaging and computer diagnostics, the role of digitalization and artificial intelligence in surgery and transplantation, innovations in medical education and science using digitalization and artificial intelligence.
TSU Rector Jaba Samushia said that the mission of the TSU Faculty of Medicine, as the center of medical education in Georgia, is to train professionals and researchers in the medical field, as well as to participate in the development of international healthcare and medical-scientific opinion. “The development of biomedical-scientific research requires permanent updating of information, and one of the important levers for solving this problem is to increase the quality of internationalization, especially the quality of internationalization of scientific research,” said Jaba Samushia.
Prof. Dr. Ingo Runnebaum of the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena received an honorary doctorate diploma from Tbilisi State University. Since 2022, Prof. Dr. Ingo Runnebaum has been a member of the International Advisory Board of the TSU Faculty of Medicine. On his initiative, students and scientific staff of the Faculty of Medicine underwent internships in the Departments of Gynecology and Pathology of the University Hospital of Jena. One of the main goals of his activities is to introduce modern and innovative services at the Women’s Hospital in Jena, to establish the highest standards and to find the best individual solutions to improve the lives of patients.
“I am glad that Tbilisi State University is hosting an international conference that has gathered about 20 speakers from 12 countries of the world, most of whom are members of the International Advisory Board of the TSU Faculty of Medicine. Their activities contribute to the development and internationalization of medical education in Georgia,” said Dimitri Kordzaia, Director of the TSU Institute of Morphology.
Members of the International Advisory Board of the TSU Faculty of Medicine participate in the implementation of modern educational standards in accordance with the recommendations of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) at the TSU Faculty of Medicine; implementation of international research projects at the TSU Faculty of Medicine with the participation of students and academic staff; exchange programs and training of students of the Faculty of Medicine; promotion of qualification of academic staff of the Faculty in university clinics abroad; implementation of joint doctoral programs (including the Cotutelle principle) with the Faculty of Medicine; holding lectures and training courses at the TSU Faculty of Medicine.
The opening of the conference was attended by Maia Bitskinashvili, Dean of the TSU Faculty of Medicine, representatives of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Georgian and foreign experts, and students.
The international scientific conference is organized by the TSU Faculty of Medicine and supported by Todua Clinic.
