Rector Holds Working Meeting with Norwegian Ambassador to Georgia

 

The Rector of Tbilisi State University, Academician Jaba Samushia held a working meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to Georgia, Bergljot Hovland.

 

The sides discussed the issues of deepening cooperation between TSU and Norwegian higher educational institutions, joint activities of Georgian and Norwegian researchers, development of the Scandinavian Studies Center at TSU, and promotion of Norwegian language teaching.

 

According to Rector Jaba Samushia, the Norwegian language has been taught at TSU for about 30 years and is one of the dominant languages ​​in the field of Scandinavian studies. “I am glad that this direction is being developed at the university and that many students are showing interest,” Jaba Samushia noted.

 

Ambassador Bergljot Hovland noted that students who study Norwegian at the university are a kind of ambassadors of the country. She added that in addition to the cooperation with the Scandinavian Center at TSU, many Norwegian universities cooperate with Tbilisi State University and promised that the Norwegian Embassy will contribute to the development of these relations as much as possible.

 

On the initiative of Rector Jaba Samushia, the Norwegian Ambassador will hold a public lecture on “European integration” for the students of TSU in the near future. In addition, books on the history of Norway in Georgian and the history of Georgia in Norwegian will be published in cooperation with the Embassy.
