A presentation of the Handbook of Georgian Literature prepared by the Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature at Tbilisi State University (TSU) and Brill Publishing, a leading international academic publisher, was held at TSU.
TSU Rector, Academician Jaba Samushia, addressed the audience: “The fact that a European reader is following your literature so thoroughly is very important. The publication of this book is a significant historical event in Georgian literary history. It is not easy to implement such a large project, and I am proud that Tbilisi State University was the foundation for this great work and that the scientists who worked on this publication are sharing their knowledge with our students.”
Professor Irma Ratian, head of the Institute of Georgian Literature, is the editor of the book. The 500-page book discusses Georgian literature from the early Middle Ages to the present day. It traces the pivotal stages in the development of Georgian literature, showcasing not only its unique trajectory, but also its deep connections to global literary currents.
