The Rector of Tbilisi State University, Academician Jaba Samushia participated in the XVII International Symposium titled “Contemporary Issues of Literary Studies.” The event was organized by Tbilisi State University, TSU Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature, and Georgian Comparative Literature Association (GCLA).
Rector Jaba Samushia emphasized the special role of the Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature in the process of popularization and internationalization of Georgian literature.
The symposium was opened at the Akaki Tsereteli State University in Kutaisi. This is the first time that the symposium is being held in the region of Georgia, since in 2023 one of the most important regional centers of Georgia - the city of Kutaisi - became a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of literature. In light of these developments, the organizing committee has decided to hold this year’s international symposium in Kutaisi. The theme of this year’s symposium is “Literatures of Small Countries and Challenges of the Modern Global World.”
Irma Ratiani, Director of the Institute of Georgian Literature at TSU and Professor of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, spoke about the local and global significance of the symposium, the special function of the city of Kutaisi in the process of formation of Georgian symbolism.
Famous scientists from different countries of the world are taking part in the work of the international symposium together with their Georgian colleagues. Among them are Alexander Stroev, Professor of General and Comparative Literature, Sorbonne Nouvelle University, and Professor Lucia Boldrini, President of the International Comparative Literature Association (ICLA).
The symposium is jointly organized by Akaki Tsereteli State University, Caucasus International University, and Kutaisi City Hall. The symposium is also supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
