Jaba Samushia Signs Memorandum of Cooperation with Ebert Foundation

Academician Jaba Samushia, Rector of Tbilisi State University, and Ia Tikanadze, Head of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Georgia Office, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

The Memorandum provides for the development of joint projects on the history of the Democratic Republic of Georgia (1918-1921), the publication of a book-album within the framework of the project “Youth Movements in Georgia: 1920s”.

TSU Rector Jaba Samushia stated that a number of interesting youth conferences were held with the support and organization of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. “Interesting publications were prepared, including scientific ones. The Friedrich Ebert Foundation was one of the first foundations in Georgia to initiate activities in this direction, and I am glad that we are deepening our cooperation with them,” said Jaba Samushia.

The purpose of this memorandum is to raise students’ awareness of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, facilitate the planning and implementation of joint projects aimed at studying the Democratic Republic of Georgia and Georgian youth organizations in Georgia and abroad during the early 20th century.

Ia Tikanadze, Head of the FES Georgia Office, said that cooperation between the foundation and Tbilisi State University began in 2018. They jointly published and translated books about the First Democratic Republic of Georgia. “We are gradually filling the library. We are pleased with the fact that there are many works of German authors in the TSU library, which emphasizes the role this country played in building our country. We will continue to cooperate in this direction, and I hope that the support provided to the library will be more extensive,” said Ia Tikanadze.

On initiative of the TSU Rector, in a collaborative effort, doctoral theses of Georgian scientists based in Germany will be sought out in German archives and published.
