Jaba Samushia Signs Memorandum of Cooperation in Maritime Law

A memorandum of cooperation was signed by Tbilisi State University Rector, Academician Jaba Samushia; Director of the International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI), Professor Norman Martinez Gutierrez; and Batumi State Maritime Academy Rector, Captain Murtaz Devadze.

The agreement includes developing scientific cooperation between the parties, promoting joint educational projects in international maritime law, and sharing of knowledge.

Rector Jaba Samushia said that the university benefits significantly from its cooperation with the International Maritime Law Institute, and therefore welcomes support and knowledge sharing. "This cooperation is important not only for our university, but also for our country. The development of maritime law in Georgia began after independence, and this institute's experience is a guide for us so that our students receive comprehensive, modern knowledge,” Samushia said.

Professor Norman Martinez Gutierrez, the Director of the International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI), noted that the memorandum will mark the beginning of fruitful cooperation. "Maritime law is of fundamental importance for Georgia. We look forward to actively participating in this process based on the memorandum. We hope that our collaboration will yield significant results in developing international maritime law for both parties,” said Professor Gutierrez.

The event was attended by Tamar Zarandia, Dean of the TSU Faculty of Law; Irine Kurdadze, Head of the International Law Institute at the TSU Faculty of Law; Tea Gergedava, Head of the TSU Department of Foreign Relations, as well as professors and students.

The goal of the collaboration is to strengthen experience in international maritime law, disseminate knowledge, conduct joint academic training and research, and deepen partnerships.
