“Establishment of Bachelor’s Program in European Studies”

The Institute for European Studies of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University organized the 7th and 8th workshops within the framework of the EU funded Jean Monnet Project “Establishment of the Bachelor’s Programme in European Studies at TSU.” The meetings were hosted by the TSU Library in a period between September 28 and October 1. Administrative and academic staff of TSU Institute for European Studies involved in the project, representatives of the TSU faculties and Quality Assurance Service, various stakeholders as well as MA and PhD students participated in the four-day workshops.
 

In her welcome speech, Nino Lapiashvili, director of the Institute for European Studies and program coordinator, briefed the project participants on the agenda of the workshops. The workshop began with the discussion of techniques of working with international scientific databases. The discussion was led by Tamar Gogua, chief specialist at the TSU Scientific Research and Development Department. She acquainted the participants with the largest and most reliable scientific databases, such as Scopus and Web of Science, discussed the peculiarities of working with these databases, also touched upon Elsevier’s ScienceDirect (SD) database and Mendeley Reference Manager.
 

The final part of the workshop was led by Teimuraz Kancheli, head of electronic resources of TSU Library. After discussing the specifics of working with university databases and the peculiarities of working in the TSU repository, the participants shared their best experiences with each other, received practical advice on effective management of their scientific profiles.
 

The project coordinator, together with the academic and administrative staff involved in the project and stakeholders, discussed the importance of developing the skills to work with world-renowned scientific databases and noted that TSU Institute for European Studies plans various events in the future to promote this direction.
 

Summing up the week of workshops held within the framework of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet project, the participants discussed the need for developmental trainings, including in terms of development of skills needed to increase the employability of researchers and students, and discussed the draft plan of the Institute’s strategic development in relation to the TSU mission.
