“Black Sea CONNECT” - Success of TSU Project

The project “Black Sea CONNECT” – “Coordination of Marine and Maritime Research and Innovation in the Black Sea” (2019-2023), developed with the participation of the TSU scientific group, received the Presidential Award of the Republic of Turkey in the “International Cooperation” category. The TSU scientific group is led by Kakhaber Bilashvili, the director of the Institute of Oceanography and Hydrology of the Geography Department of the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences.

The award bestowed upon the project undertaken as part of the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 program serves to acknowledge the achievements of the consortium and to underscore the consortium’s overall success in developing the Black Sea Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda and its implementation plan. This contributes to the further expansion and strengthening of international cooperation for the protection of the Black Sea’s ecological environment. Additionally, in alignment with the principles of blue growth—the sustainable utilization of marine resources for economic advancement—knowledge exchange, the dissemination of best practices, and the implementation of innovations are facilitated.

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan presented the Presidential Award to the representatives of the project, namely professors Barış Salihoğlu and Mustafa Yücel of the Middle East Technical University (Turkey).
