“Exceptional and Rare Cases in Surgery” – International Conference at TSU

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted an international conference “Exceptional and Rare Cases in Surgery.” The international clinical conference of surgeons discussed the rare cases that can be found in modern medicine in this direction.
 

“One of the most important steps and ways in the process of learning and teaching future doctors is to understand and see what special and completely unique cases may exist in medical specialties. Today’s meeting lays the foundation for activities in several directions: the first is that information is exchanged between representatives of different countries; the second is that new relations are established and, most importantly, ways for future research activities are emerging,” Nino Okribelashvili, Deputy Rector of TSU, said.
 

The international clinical conference of surgeons, which will gather leading foreign specialists from 10 countries along with Georgian surgeons, is an excellent opportunity for surgeons, experts in adjacent fields, and especially residents, doctoral students, and students to familiarize themselves with new innovations and raise their knowledge and qualification.
 

Professor Merab Kiladze, Head of Surgical Department at American Hospital Tbilisi‎, spoke about planned programs and future perspectives. He noted that the conference is a very important event in the field of medicine; it allows sharing experience with foreign colleagues that is important for young surgeons.
 

On the sidelines of the conference, a book “Exceptional and Rare Cases in Surgery” was prepared and printed. TSU Professor Merab Kiladze was a chief editor and presenter of the book. “The book contains 115 rare cases in surgery with illustrations that will significantly raise the level of qualification and training of our young surgeons, especially residents, postdoctoral fellows. In addition, we discussed joint projects, joint doctoral program,” Merab Kiladze noted. He said that two Georgian doctoral students have been selected who will leave for two leading clinics of the world next year: the Vienna Clinical Hospital and one of the private clinics in Israel.
 

A representative of Israeli Society of Surgical Oncology awarded Merab Kiladze with a special certificate for his contribution to the field of surgery.  


Plenary sessions were held in the following sections: general and minimally invasive surgery, surgical oncology, transplantation, interventional radiology, and urology. 5 ECTC and certificates were handed over to the delegates of the conference.  
 

The event was organized by Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, American Hospital Tbilisi, G. Mukhadze Society of Surgeons, and Georgian Medical Association.
