The University Quality Service actively cooperates with international foundations and institutions such as: British Council, German International Cooperation Association (Deutsche Gesellschaft Für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), German Academic Exchange Service (Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst - DAAD), University Agency of Francophone (Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) at various levels in order to manage a number of processes and establish them in the university area.

 

With the support of International Institutions and Foundations and in cooperation with the Quality Assurance Service, communication at the university is carried out in several areas, including:

 

  • Development of educational programs;
  • Evaluation of educational programs;
  • Professional support of academic staff;
  • Sharing updated quality assurance issues and processes.

 

The university is constantly striving to maintain a high degree of teaching-learning, research, internationalization.

THE WEBINAR IN FRAME OF PROJECT ARCC

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University participates in the British Council-funded project - arCc (Assuming Responsibility for Climate Change), which involves 14 partner universities from 13 countries around the world. Within the framework of the project, on October 4, 2021, Tbilisi State University Quality Assurance Office, which is the project coordinator from Georgia, hosted the second webinar. The webinar dealt with the management of universities during the Covid-19 pandemic and the post-pandemic period.

 

The aim of the project is to unite representatives of different countries and disciplines around joint initiatives focused on the environment, taking responsibility for and mitigating climate change. The participating universities will exchange their experience and resources by preparing webinars and micro-courses, as well as involving students in the project.

 

 

"Strengthening Quality Culture at Tbilisi State University"

Within a joint project, "Strengthening Quality Culture at Tbilisi State University", by LEPL Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and the Central and Francophonie Eastern European University Agency (AUF), an external evaluation of all three levels (undergraduate, graduate and doctoral) of the TSU Faculty of Law that were  presented for accreditation in 2020. Additionally, the one-level dental education program of the Faculty of Medicine of the University were also carried out.

 

The program is under the direction of Mr. Mohamed Ketata and coordinated by Claudia Wiesan. On October 12-13, 2019 the international expert, Professor Anne-Marie Clebe, former Vice-Rector of the University of Strasbourg, was invited to evaluate the educational programs of the three law degree programs, to hold workshops with the Law Faculty’s Administrative and Academic staff and to make recommendations.  Following the examination, Professor Clebe Pelisier described the visit as one of the best-organized, with all stakeholders in the educational program included and involved. The expert attributed the Georgian Law Faculty to those in other high-level law schools in Europe.

 

The one-step Dentistry program in the Faculty of Medicine was evaluated separately, with an external evaluation by an expert, Professor Jean-Louis Sixus of the University of Rennes, France, who subsequently sent his recommendations to the Faculty of Medicine. The recommendations were shared by the implementing staff, and were included, in detail, in the portfolio submitted for the accreditation of the educational program.

 

In cooperation with the same agency, on May 16, 2019 two sessions were held within the framework of the planned doctoral studies’ training (expert: Cristina Teodorescu, Professor at the University of Craiova, Romania) on the topic: "Master's and Doctoral Programs Quality Assurance". Some issues discussed were cooperation with Francophone regions; Doctoral studies and co-leadership in International doctoral networks; Evaluation of Master's and Doctoral programs.

 

TThe target audience included Academic and Administrative staff as well as students interested in quality assurance.

 

 

"Vocational Education and Human Resource Development" (GIZ)

At the initiative and with the involvement of the University Quality Assurance Service, as well as through support from the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), a Master's Degree Program "Vocational Education and Human Resource Management" is being developed. The Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg is also involved in the development of the curriculum. Prior to beginning work on the new program, a one-week training was held from 8-12 April, 2019 for the Academic staff in the field of education. This workshop included 17 participants led by expert, Dr. Marcus Boehner. Within the same project, TSU received a book fund of GEL 27,000 for the implementation of a joint international Master's program.

 

 

"Higher Education for Employment" (BRITISH COUNCILS)

Based on the educational and research potential of the university, Tbilisi State University along with two other Georgian universities (Ilia State University and State Medical University) participates in the "Higher Education for Employment" program proposed by the British Councils in 2019-2020 (see the link).

 

Participation in this international project will increase the degree of internationalization of higher education institutions, especially since this project aims to ensure access to higher education and professional development. The program will support the preparation of English-language educational programs, which will help attract not only Georgian but also foreign students. During the reporting period, with the support of the Quality Assurance Faculty Services, an evaluation was conducted by a foreign expert on the Chemistry Bachelor's Degree Program Curriculum (course lecturer: Dr. Giorgi Jibuti). On February 24-29, 2020, a training course, "English as a Language of Branch Study", was held for the academic staff of the University, and attended by 10 representatives from 4 faculties of  TSU.

 

 

"Good Scientific Practice from a German Perspective" (DAAD)

Within the Institutional Development Program Erasmus +, an academic cycle of public lectures was planned by the Quality Assurance Service within the framework of a current project "Academic Integrity in Georgian Higher Education Institutions for Quality Teaching and Learning" (INTEGRITY). The cycle was opened by the Head of the Tbilisi Bureau of German Exchange Service, Professor Gebhardt Royle, who spoke to students of the University’s doctoral program about Germany’s experience in academic integrity. He introduced different types of software security, which will help doctoral students understand issues in academic integrity. The course of the present public lectures and sharing experiences will continue with the participation of well-known researchers and the academic staff of TSU.

 

 

Meeting with Representatives of Times Higher Education World University Rankings

Tbilisi State University's Quality Assurance Service organized a meeting on October 28, 2019 with representatives of THE World University Rankings, including the brand and General Manager, Michael Lubage. During the meeting, the representatives of the Times World Universities Rankings reviewed the opportunities of Georgian universities in ranking, ways to improve world reputation and internationalization. The session focused on branding and reputation management: how Georgian universities should successfully present their brand and increase awareness of the university's educational and scientific achievements, which is one of the prerequisites for the success of universities in this competitive environment. The event was attended by representatives of various Georgian universities (6 Georgian universities, 28 participants), as well as of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports and the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement. The event aimed to promote the participation of Georgian higher education institutions in the ranking of world universities and improve their positions, which in turn has a positive impact on the internationalization of Georgian higher education and science, its visibility and reputation, which is one of the priorities of Georgia's higher education system.
